Punganoor Lake, Yelagiri, Tamil Nadu.

Punganoor Lake, Yelagiri, Tamil Nadu.

Punganoor Lake is one of the few manmade lakes located in India and is situated in the district of Yelagiri around 250 km from the city of Chennai. The district is a hill station full of beauty and is around 1400 mts above sea level. The lake is around 57 sq meters in area and is an excellent place for boating and rowing.
Whoever said that nothing man-made could equal natural beauty needs to think again as this place is one of the most beautiful and one of the main tourist attractions of the state. Punganoor Lake is an artificial lake that invites you to spend a leisurely hour or two boating. The lake was created artificially so as to enhance the beauty of the place and attract the tourists and increase the footfall as several families in the neighbouring areas are solely dependent on the place being a tourist hotspot for earning and survival.
Punganoor Lake is surrounded by gardens if you prefer to take a walk in the serene environment. There is also a park fitted with slides keeping the children in mind. The most interesting thing about the lake is the aesthetically placed fountain in the middle of the lake which provides a breathtaking view when it is turned on. A must do thing at the lake is go for a boating. You can rest on a boat while someone rows you around the lake or you could pick up a paddle boat and take it for a round around the lake. The paddle boat is a hit with families as they enjoy doing the activity as it brings the family together.
